role in the creation of an American national identity in the early  
20th century. Art colonies in Old Lyme and Cos Cob, Connecticut and  
Ogunquit and Monhegan, Maine were inspiration for nationally  
recognized artists including Edward Hopper, Childe Hassam, Robert  
Henri, and George Bellows, among others. The exhibition will chronicle  
the development of impressionist Connecticut and modernist Maine and  
will feature 74 works drawn from the collections of the Portland  
Museum of Art and the Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme, Connecticut.

(1815-1879) was recognized as one of the leading photographers of her  
era and today is regarded as one of finest portraitists of the medium.  
This album, made for her sister Maria Jackson (affectionately known as  
Mia) includes family portraits and allegorical works, such as her  
famous series on Mia's daughter, who later became the mother of the  
writer Virginia Woolf. In addition, the album features images of some  
of the most celebrated figures of Victorian England - among them the  
poet Alfred Tennyson and the Pre-Raphaelite painter George Frederic

19th-century Saco artisans, and a magnificent selection of folk art

Historical Society Center for History and Culture is "Georgetown in  
Transition: 1900-1930." Photographs from the GHS collections  
illustrate how changes in transportation, the national and local  
economy, and the influx of rusticators brought dramatic change to  
Georgetown Island. Included in the exhibit is a 1913 Gertrude Kasebier  
platinum print of the Clarence H. White family, as well as William  
Zorach's 1920 pen and ink, Artist's Son First Sketch. Also on display  
is artist Scott Stoll's beautiful Apple Wood Sculptures, made from

Joyce Tenneson, A Life in Photography, 1978-2008, will highlight the  
connections between these two important figures. Tenneson lives in

recognized artist Barbara Ernst Prey. She has painted powerful,  
vibrant views of her surroundings for three decades. On display are 30

retrospective. Her artwork is included in major public collections in  
the U.S. including The Brooklyn Museum, the Smithsonian American Art

Jules-Auguste Habert-Dys: Lithographs from the Fantaisies Decoratives

Jul 29 thru Aug 19, 2009. Jules Auguste Habert-Dys (1850-1924) was  
born in Fresnes, France. The Fantaisies Decoratives, published in  
1886, was a one year project with forty-eight lithographs issued in  
twelve parts. The colored gravures, many containing gold, were printed  
on papier du Chine by noted lithographer, Charles Gillot. The  
intricate patterns, featuring birds, animals, flowers, fish, insects,  
shellfish, and frogs, were designed for ceramics, plates and dishes,  
textiles, wall paper, vases, and jewelry. Habert-Dys adopted many  
elements of Japanese influence (Japonisme). Also found are elements of  
line and curve that later became an intrinsic characteristic of the  
Art Nouveau movement. Each of the prints is an original lithograph  
from one of the twelve parts printed in 1886. Reception: Friday, July

contemporary settings; new cultures and experiences; and beauty across  
the world, whether in the colors of an Italian horserace, the shadows

East Tennessee's Smokey Mountains. A tape of her music that she sold  
at the park got into the hands of a label executive and three weeks  
later she was signed. Suzy has collaborated with some of Nashville's  
most influential songwriters -- Chet Atkins, Steve Dorff, Matraca  
Berg, Pat Bunch ... however, it should come as no surprise that her  
favorite co-writer is husband, Doug Crider. In '93, the two penned her

Amphitheatre and Harbor Park when professional musicians from Maine  
Pro Musica and conductor Janna Hymes team up for a free outdoor  
concert at 4:00 p.m. Bring blankets, pack a picnic and come hear Maine  
Pro Musica present an afternoon of American classics with selections  
by Ellington, Gershwin, Sousa and more. Free lawn seating. Limited  
number of reserved chairs for $40, with tickets available through

the wooden puppet who longed to become a real, live boy, comes to life  
Saturday, August 22 when the Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT) and  
more than 40 local students perform an original, musical adaptation of  
this classic tale. Pinocchio will be presented at 3:00 at the  
Waterville Opera House. Tickets are $6.00 and are available through  
the WOH boxoffice and at the door. The Missoula Children's Theatre  
residency in Waterville is presented locally by the Waterville Opera  
House with funding provided by Greater Waterville Communities for
